Our Programs

 

All are welcome to our monthly meetings to learn more about the various aspects of gardening in our area. Topics may include butterfly gardening, trees, vegetable gardening, composting, container gardens, perennials, houseplants, native plants, use of color in the garden, organic gardening, and more.

Our programs are held at the Allen Heritage Center / Train Depot, 100 E Main Street, downtown Allen unless otherwise noted.

7:00 PM, Thursday, February 5: Plants That Bees Like

 

Come learn about "Plants That Bees Like" from Shannon La Grave, Certified Texas Master Craftsman Beekeeper. Shannon has been keeping bees for the past 20 years and is still passionate about growing and learning about these incredible insects that support the agricultural needs of our earth. Shannon oversees bees in multiple locations in North Texas Dallas area metroplex. She enjoys being invited to clubs with their wide variety of members and hearing their stories as well as sharing her knowledge and experience to the benefit of the bees and our local pollinators. All are welcome to this FREE presentation and refreshments will be served. 

7:00 PM, Thursday, March 5: Lessons in WOW! from Southwest England

 

Collin County Master Gardener, Jenny Nelson is going to present "Lessons in WOW! from Southwest England. She will feature the "Wow!" of the gardens in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, and Tresco from her travels last year. All are welcome to this FREE presentation and refreshments will be served. 

6:30 PM, Thursday, April 2: Spring Plant Swap

 

It is a great time to dig and divide those overgrown summer and fall blooming perennials to share with other gardeners. Please plant them in labeled containers so others know what they are taking home.  Bring your plants to the meeting rooms A & B at the east entrance at the Allen Public Library, 300 N Allen Dr, Allen and give away and take some new plants for your own garden. Seeds are also welcome. Please bring them in labeled envelopes. This is a FREE event that is open to the public. (Note: Please bring your potted plants in boxes to minimize any mess.)

1:00-3:00 PM, Saturday, April 11: Pollinator Gardens Kickoff - Allen Senior Recreation Center

​

Join us to help launch the pollinator garden at the Allen Senior Citizens Center, 451 St. Mary Dr, Allen. Members of the Allen Garden Club will provide free native Texas wildflower seed packets and educational garden brochures. The event will include speakers from the Allen Community Development Corporation and Allen City Council.

6:00 PM, Thursday, May 7: Wildflower Walk at Oak Point Nature Preserve

​

All are invited to our wildflower walk at Oak Point Nature Preserve to see Texas wildflowers at their peak. Carol Clark, Texas Native Plant Society member and Blackland Prairie Master Naturalist will be our guide to teach us about the various wildflowers that provide habitat to many pollinators and other wildlife in our area. We will provide more details on parking/location closer to the event. We recommend that you dress for the weather and wear bug repellant and bring a water bottle.

Denise Webre, AGC President, will share a fascinating look at plants mentioned in the Bible that can thrive right here in our North Central Texas gardens. All are welcome​ and refreshments will be served.
