About Us

The Allen Garden Club (AGC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 1998 with the intention of helping educate people in Allen and the surrounding areas about gardening.

We offer monthly programs on plants, trees, landscape design, perennials, houseplants, organic gardening, and much more. We also give back to our community by performing community service projects such as planting trees and gardens to beautify the city.

Some benefits of membership include informative monthly programs by area gardening experts, a monthly e-mail newsletter, opportunities to work on projects to beautify our community, plant and seed exchanges and the fun and fellowship of the members. We also have a holiday potluck each December as an opportunity to share a meal with friends and celebrate the holiday season.

AGC celebrate
s Arbor Day with the City of Allen Parks and Recreation Department with a tree planting at a city or school park in Allen. Each year we donate money to the city so there are enough trees for the public to participate in the tree planting at the celebration. See our Arbor Day page for more information about our involvement with Arbor Day.

In past years, we assisted the City of Allen with planting pansies for local senior citizens as a part of Texas Recycles Day each fall. In 2007 we planted EarthKind™ roses at a local park in addition to providing the containers for the pansies. We contributed resources and our time for Texas Recycles Day each fall from 2002 - 2015.

In recent years, we have participated in the EarthFest Allen each spring to help bring awareness to the outdoor ecology of our area. Look for our booth this spring at the Allen ISD STEAM Center. There will be lots of fun and educational outdoor activities for the family to enjoy.

Members are invited on tours of local gardening attractions. We completed our seventh garden tour in June 2016 to help fund our community service projects. We have participated in North Texas Giving Day for the last several years to help fund our activities.

The Allen Garden Club has provided a diverse assortment of monthly programs since 1998 provided by master gardeners, master naturalists, local nurserymen, master composters, arborists, and other local gardening experts. Topics such as native plants, butterfly gardening, plant propagation, tree care, roses, composting, growing herbs, garden craft projects, and water gardening have provided valuable information to our community.

We offer a scholarship to Allen High School seniors planning to obtain a higher education degree in a horticulture related field. See our Scholarship page under About Us.

Our meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month from February through June and August through December at 7:00 PM at the Allen Heritage Center (Train Depot) at 100 East Main St. in downtown Allen. Please check our program calendar for details and any changes. All are welcome to our monthly meetings. Refreshments are served at each meeting. Send us an e-mail if you have any questions about the Allen Garden Club. We would love to hear from you!

Happy Gardening!
