Spring Garden Tour
We now have two garden tours under our belt and want to thank everyone who attended in 2006 and 2007. We hope you enjoyed the beauty of the gardens and got some good ideas for your own landscape.
The work for the children’s alphabet native plant garden will begin in late 2009 or in 2010. David and Christy of Native Dave donated a beautiful design that includes lots of colorful and fragrant native plants, a labyrinth, an outdoor classroom area and an arch as an entry into the garden. We have some steps to take in getting the plans approved by the City of Allen Parks Board to get it included in the master plan of a new park here in Allen where it will be included near the new environmental education center.
We are working hard on the 2008 Spring Garden Tour that will be on June 7, 2008 to help fund this children’s garden. Thanks to Keep Allen Beautiful for sponsoring this year’s garden tour. Look for the banners a couple weeks prior to the tour throughout the city as reminders to pick up your tour book at Puckett’s Nursery & Landscape.
We have seven gardeners (members and non-members) who have volunteered to show off their gardens this year. You will get to visit gardens that feature native plants, tropicals, colorful perennials, square foot gardening practices and a beautiful backyard pond complete with koi fish. These gardens are the result of hard work and a love of plants and the beauty they provide to their outdoor living environments of the homeowners.
Tour books are now available at Puckett’s Nursery and Landscape at 811 East Main St. in Allen for a $10 donation.
